Welcome to #YoMIL (Young Women’s Media and Information Literacy Initiative), a transformative project dedicated to empowering young women in The Gambia to reshape the media landscape. We believe in a media sector that is free, diverse, and independent, where women play an equal and confident role in strengthening democracy.
Our mission is to combat gender-based discrimination and media censorship by equipping young women with essential media and information literacy skills. Through training sessions across all regions of The Gambia and the development of the Young Women’s Media Guide, we provide practical tools for young women to establish themselves in media careers and amplify their voices.
But #YoMIL is more than just a guide—it’s a movement. Alongside the guide, an offline app ensures that women across The Gambia, even in regions with limited connectivity, can access vital resources. Through an annual National Women’s Conference ( For the first time in the history of The Gambia) and collaborations with journalists, media professionals and civil society #YoMIL fosters knowledge sharing, representation, and a collective push for change.
#YoMIL-Gambia Project focuses on developing a free, diverse and independent media landscape in The Gambia, where women contribute equally and confidently to strengthening democracy.
Join us in creating a media environment where young women lead, inspire, and transform. Dive into our website to explore our workshops, expert-led initiatives, and the impact we are making, one story at a time. Together, let’s amplify women’s voices and build a more inclusive media landscape.
