It is with immense pleasure to have launched the First Annual National Women in Media Summit and First Young Women’s Media Guide in The Gambia. This milestone is a testament of the growing demand for Media and information Literacy initiatives across regions to bridge the gender divide in the Gambian media space.
The historic Two-day Summit brought together over Hundred Gambian women and partners to explore ways to advance gender equality and representation under the theme: “𝑩𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑩𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒔, 𝑩𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑭𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆: 𝑾𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏 𝑹𝒆𝒅𝒆𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑴𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒂 𝒊𝒏 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒂𝒎𝒃𝒊𝒂“.
The Media Guide which is available both in hard copy and an App, is the collective contributions of women and girls across the seven regions who have provided inputs during our regional sprint workshops. Their contributions marked the hallmark of limited access to a walking tool to improve women’s media literacy.
We extend our gratitude to Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) for funding this landmark initiative that has brought significant progress towards reducing the gender gap in The Gambian space. This project wouldn’t have been possible without your generous donation to rog to implement the project.
We equally appreciate the support from the Gambian Government through the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting and Ministry of Gender, for gracing the occasion and delivering the Launch Statement and Keynote speeches respectively.
At YoMIL Gambia, we are committed to building a diverse and independent media landscape in The Gambia.
